It is very windy where we live. We just moved to Carrizozo this past summer and want to start doing more planting. Do you have any recommendations for particularly wind-hardy plants - or thoughts of which plants we should not even try? We are 7a.

RE: Little bluestem— At La Luz del Leste (ABQ) we have an area of blue gram and buffalo grass mix, and clumps of little bluestem nearby have vigorously seeded into this turf mix and look to take over! Plan is to remove as much as possible. Is there another way?

Just a comment. I planted some Blonde Ambition grass in a pot this Summer. The snowfall bent over the stems. I was amazed and delighted to see they sprang back after the melt.

I recently learned that pine needles do not acidify the soil. Any rules of thumb for using them for compost or how thick of a layer is good as mulch. How much is too much?

Do you have recommendations of perennial native grasses for large pots? Santa Fe (6b)

Muhly grass will spring back. I took a broom to mine to get the snow off and it didn’t phase them

Is winter watering effective if the ground is frozen?

Are you compost containers mainly food waste or yard waste? Your compost idea seemed easy and I would love to try but I would be afraid of attracting animals or unwanted critters. Is that ever a problem for you?

I have two perennials in pots now, Autumn Sage and Yarrow. Should I leave them in the pots or transplant to the ground?

On the note of standing water, will deep rooted grasses help with areas in the yard where water pools from rain?
